Isaiah 59:15-16

Truth is nowhere to be found, and whoever shuns evil becomes a prey. The Lord looked and was displeased that there was no justice. He saw that there was no one, he was appalled that there was no one to intervene; so his own arm achieved salvation for him, and his own righteousness sustained him.
– Isaiah 59:15-16 (NIV)
Today’s commentary
by Dave Whitehead, Author of Making Sense of the Bible
At first this may seem like a discouraging passage, but Isaiah captures the entire biblical narrative. The Bible begins with Adam and Eve’s rebellion to God in the Garden of Eden, and from that time forward God has been faithful to his promises while mankind has not. Yet in this we see the love of God, for while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. God has worked out our salvation with his own arm, and we are all the beneficiaries of that act of love and justice.
