Pain is not the enemy—it’s the evidence that God is still at work in us. In a world obsessed with comfort, convenience, and control, we’ve forgotten that brokenness is a blessing, not a curse. When God shatters our pride, strips away our idols, and tears down the walls we’ve built to protect ourselves, He’s not punishing us—He’s purifying us. Pain is the refining fire that burns away the dross of our sin and leaves behind something beautiful, something holy, something His. Without pain, there is no dependence. Without breaking, there is no bending of the knee before a holy God. The problem is that too many Christians are praying for blessings but not for brokenness. They want resurrection power without the cross, strength without surrender, and faith without fire. But Scripture makes it clear: “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18). God doesn’t live in the temples of the proud—He dwells in the ruins of the humbled. When He allows pain into your life, it’s not cruelty; it’s compassion. He’s pulling you out of self-sufficiency and into His sovereignty. He’s removing everything you think you need so you can finally recognize the One you truly do need. So stop praying that God spares you from the pain—and start praying that He uses it. Because pain is the megaphone of Heaven, shouting truths that comfort will never whisper. Pain reveals our dependence, deepens our faith, and draws us closer to the only One who can heal what’s broken. The blessing of brokenness isn’t in the pain itself—it’s in the Person we meet through it. Pray for pain, because only in your breaking can God rebuild you into the image of His Son. |
