Saying Yes
When God speaks, one of two reactions follows: either a joyful yes or a heart-sinking no. God is looking for followers who will say yes to trusting Him and carrying His message to the world.
When Jeremiah was too young to even speak, God called him to be a prophet. But Jeremiah wasn’t asked to be a regular prophet; he was to prophesy about God’s coming judgment because the people had turned away from Him. Jeremiah’s calling got him beaten and mocked by his own people and eventually landed him in jail. There, Jeremiah realized the absolute power of God’s Word; trying to bury it inside him was like trying to contain fire! Although his message caused controversy, making him want to quit his calling, Jeremiah knew that the people needed to hear God’s Word.
Sometimes we don’t want to do what God asks us to do. His requests often put us in awkward situations with our friends, make us vulnerable, and require a lot from us. But in the end, God is asking us to obey and carry His message to others, so they can know Him. Today, when He asks you to speak, will you obey?
