Proverbs 27:17

Saturday, November 26, 2016

So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did just as the Lord commanded. Aaron threw his staff down in front of Pharaoh and his officials, and it became a snake. Pharaoh then summoned wise men and sorcerers, and the Egyptian magicians also did the same things by their secret arts: Each one threw down his staff and it became a snake. But Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs.

There have always been people who try to compete with God for attention. We see the same thing today in less dramatic ways: marketers use their magic arts to make us think that our acceptance is based upon what we buy; we are bombarded with movies and television that portray faith as an ignorant prejudice. But in the end all of these attempts are swallowed up in the reality of God’s truth. The LORD will have no other gods before him, no matter how much others try to convince us otherwise.
