Dear Friends,

One of the greatest needs for us as Christians is to exercise discernment in every area of their lives. In the Gospel for this coming Lord's Day Jesus warns his disciples;  "Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore, be wise as serpents, and harmless as doves" (Matthew 10:16).

And what are the characteristics of wolves?  Wolves are ruthless predators who come to kill, steal and destroy.   They typically ambush their prey from behind before tearing it to bloody pieces.

When wolves come into the  midst of the Church they usually come  in "sheep's clothing" using flattery to gain an advantage or influence in people's lives. They wait for the right

moment to undermine church leaders, sow discord, slander, get money or push their self-serving agenda.  Once their devious objectives are met they leave, unless they are exposed by those who discern their character and hold them accountable.

The Apostle Paul warns the Church in Acts 20:29; "For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock".  Paul is referring to false teachers who prey on God's people to meet their selfish ends.

This Sunday we'll explore what God says about discernment so that we can be "wise as serpents and harmless as doves" as we live our everyday lives. Come ready to be encouraged in your walk with Christ!

Your servant in Christ,

Father Dean Schultz - Christ The Redeemer Church
