Hebrews 7:26-27 – Such a high priest truly meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners

Such a high priest truly meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself.
– Hebrews 7:26-27 (NIV)

The concept of sacrifice for sin may be foreign to many of us, but we can all relate to criminals receiving justice for their crimes. The annual sacrifice was the payment of justice for the crime (sin) of the people against God. Yet that was not enough for God. He sent Jesus as a priest unlike any other. Jesus had every advantage, yet instead of using his uniqueness to promote Himself, Jesus offered Himself as the sacrifice. Justice had been served at the cross as the innocent gave Himself for the guilty once for all. Now we have peace with a holy, blameless, and pure God who calls us to Himself in Christ.
