Jesus continued: “There was a man who had two sons. The younger one said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’ So he divided his property between them.

The parable of the prodigal son is one of the most famous stories in the Bible. When the younger son asked his father for his inheritance, he might as well said, “I wish that you were dead.” Yet the father, who is a picture of God, does not withhold the estate from his son. This painful response tells us a lot about our heavenly Father. God loves us so much that He is willing to let us pursue our pain filled ambitions while He waits for us to come to our senses. The worst thing that can happen to a rebellious person is for God to give them what they want.
