We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up. For even Christ did not please himself but, as it is written: “The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.”
– Romans 15:1-3 (NIV)
Today’s commentary
by Dave Whitehead, Author of Making Sense of the Bible
The life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ sets us free from the power of sin and out of that freedom Christ now asks us to not think about ourselves as much as how to bear the burdens of others. This may seem too much to bear, except that the God who laid down his life for us now empowers us to do the very same thing for our neighbor. Do you feel dry in your walk with God? You’ll probably find the answer in the needs of those around you.
