The Rev. Dean F. Schultz - Christ the Redeemer Church in Springfield, VA

Dear Friends,

During a recent anniversary celebration, Glorianne and I traveled to Italy, where we visited Rome, Florence, Sorrento, and towns nestled along the Almalfi Coast. We also visited the quaint village of Asissi, where St. Francis launched a mission movement of Franciscan Friars that continues to impact the world with the Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ!

Occasionally, I hear Christians claim that St. Francis said, "Preach the gospel at all times and, if necessary, use words." They use this "quote" to emphasize the importance of good deeds in leading people to Christ. Though I believe these friends are sincere, they are sincerely wrong. There is no evidence that St. Francis ever said these words. Furthermore, such a statement is not even biblical!

This Sunday, we will be taking a look at the ministry of John the Baptist, and what this Spirit-filled prophet and the Bible has to teach us about what it means to proclaim the gospel. We'll also explore some of the misunderstandings promoted by media, politicians, and others in our culture who make references to "evangelical Christians" without understanding what "evangelical" truly means from a biblical perspective!

Come ready to worship, be encouraged, and be equipped to prepare the way of the Lord!

Your servant in Christ,
Dean+
