Dear Friends,

Grace and peace! As I reflect on our sacred mission to reach our "nation of nations" with the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, I'm reminded of the following exhortation from St. Paul to the Christians at Rome;

"Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is right. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality (Romans 12:9-13)

When I read these verses, the word fervent stands out to me. Why?

I'll never forget our son taking a cup of boiling water from our microwave one day to make a cup of tea. As he sat down, he accidentally dropped the scalding water on his lap. Thankfully he recovered, but the incident comes to mind every time I read the word fervent," which means "to boil"!

Likewise, every faithful follower of Jesus Christ is called to "boil" with the Holy Spirit. This fervency is renewed when we gather to worship the Holy Trinity through Word and Sacrament on the Lord's Day. We then are sent from the Lord's Table to faithfully proclaim Christ to the nations beginning where we live and work!

May we be equipped to live out Romans 12:9-13 as we gather to worship this Sunday!

Your servant in Christ,
