Notice that it is the love of money, not money, which is the root of all kinds of evil. The term “wandering from the faith” is insightful, for the love of money is a subtle intoxicant that is rarely identified. As a pastor, I have heard many people repent of lust, but I have yet to have someone repent to me of greed. Yet the grief that the love of money produces is great, and our nation is filled with self inflicted wounds from the siren call of consumerism.
