Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Notice this pattern: first we submit to God, then the devil flees! We can get caught up with resisting the devil but that can be simply an exercise in willpower. When we first go to God we set ourselves up to receive His grace and transforming power. The best way to stop lying is to commit to tell the truth, and the best way to resist sin is to surrender our lives daily to God. Only He has the power to give you the victory!
