This Week AT Crossroads I 11.03.22

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
The early 2020s have been marked by unexpected events and worldwide phenomena. Even apart from the global mayhem, life is always unpredictable. Life gets busy, people change, cultures change, we change, and it can all be very disorienting. In this message series, we will bring perspective through God’s Word to settle our hurried, worried, and busied hearts.

SCRIPTURES
Psalm 12:25
John 14
1 Peter 5:6-8

HUDDLE/STUDY QUESTIONS
  1. What is one thing that stood out to you from this week’s message?
  2. How did Jesus’s prediction of his death turn his disciples’ world upside down?
  3. Have you ever had a similar experience in your own life? If so, what helped you during that time?
  4. How does God’s Word bring us peace in an unpredictable world?

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

CHURCH CENTER APP IS HERE

We are transitioning away from Breeze to another platform called Planning Center Online (PCO) beginning January 1, 2023. We were using Breeze to manage contact information, group information, volunteer, general communication and many behind-the-scenes processes. All of this is now done in PCO.  The next step is for you to download the free Church Center app that integrates with Planning Center.  This will enable you to manage your profile information, donations, events you've registered for, and groups you attend or lead. You can also view a church calendar and directory.  Help is available throughout the week to get you set up.  Contact Kelly Dunlap for support.

HOLY LAND PILGRIMAGE
APRIL 10-20, 2023
Join Pastor Charles along with ELCA Bishops Pedro Suarez (Florida-Bahamas Synod) and Yehiel Curry (Metropolitan Chicago Synod) on an 11-day journey to the Holy Land next spring. This joint pilgrimage includes 10 days of sightseeing and unforgettable experiences.  Journey to the places where Jesus lived and ministered. Explore Jesus’ world in and around Jerusalem as well as his life in the city of Bethlehem to the Sea of Galilee.  Visit the Lutheran School in Bethlehem and dialogue with the Bishop of the Lutheran Church of Jerusalem.  Space is limited. Contact Pastor Charles for more information.

MEET GOD
PUMPKIN SPICE SUNDAY NOVEMBER 13th
Enjoy pumpkin spice treats. Leave worship with a full heart.  Your friends at Crossroads are pleased to kickoff a new season with a special Sunday event. The service will brim with inspiration; hospitality will flood our building with everything pumpkin spice!

CHRISTMAS AT CROSSROADS

Can you believe it...Christmas is almost here.  Save the date and join us as we’ll usher in the season with live music for Hymns and Hops, Decoration Party, Caroling and pictures with Santa at The Station Coffee Company.  And don’t miss the chance to take your family photos.  Gather your friends and family for Christmas events you’ll remember throughout the season.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
Last Sunday we celebrated Reformation Sunday.  In addition, we also celebrated Baptism Sunday.  We introduced a new way of doing baptisms. Right before Communion, people who wanted to be baptized were invited to come forward. Three people responded to this invitation: Lucas Haugen, Gary Stoye and Euclides Tabarez.  Pastor Charles uses Baptism Sunday to do catechesis for not only those who will be baptized but for the entire congregation. He explores the meaning of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, and how baptism is an act of incorporation into the body of Christ.  Congratulations Lucas, Gary and Euclides and welcome to the family of God's people. We love you and Jesus loves you more.
MEET FRIENDS
FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT: HOME ALONE
Looking for a fun activity to do with the whole family? Join us for Family Movie Night on Saturday, November 12th. Enjoy pizza, popcorn and candy together with friends and family while watching Home Alone!  Come in your PJ's if you'd like.  Bring your favorite blanket and pillow for floor seating. Doors will open at 5:00PM for food and refreshments. The movie will start at 5:15PM. Suggested donation of $5 per family.

FORM MEET UP
SUNDAY, NOV. 6th @ 6:30PM
2769 E. Thistle Ave. Mesa, AZ (Ministry House @ ASU POLY)

FORM is a discipleship & leadership community for young adults. Many East Valley Lutheran churches are unable to create an environment for young adults to do discipleship together with other young adults. FORM is the bridge that compliments, collaborates with and champions the local church.

WELCOME BACK WINTER DISCIPLES & FRIENDS GATHERINGS
Nov 14 10:00 AM
Everyone is welcome! We especially invite all our friends who worship with us during the winter months. Come meet new friends, hear what's happening at Crossroads and the vision for 2023 from Pastor Charles.  Attend one of these informative gatherings.  All gatherings will be held at Crossroads at 10:00am.
MAKE LIFE BETTER
The Crossroads Giving Tree is our unique way of supporting a family in need with our community partner the Florence Unified School District.  Each year we assembly a team of "elves" who plan the event for the church.  We invite you to join our planning meeting on Nov. 6 after the 9:15 worship service in the Sanctuary.  For more information contact Michelle Scavo
PAINTERS NEEDED
The meeting room is now completely built out.  We are a couple steps away from welcoming KidsCity and other guests to utilize that space.  We need a couple of people to paint the room.  If you can invest in the Next Generation by painting this room, contact Kelly Dunlap today.
A FAMILY ON MISSION
Jesus had an extended family on mission — disciples beyond the twelve that he considered sisters and brothers who regularly met together for meals, reflection, and mission. In the early church, they called this oikos, or what we might call household or house church today. At Crossroads our Missional Communities are the heartbeat where you too can regularly participate in this kind of tight-knit Kingdom community. To learn more, join or start a missional community contact Pastor Charles Newman
