Emergency Relief Airlifted to Southern Brazil
Dear Friend,
Samaritan's Purse rushed our 757 and DC-8 cargo planes full of relief supplies to southern Brazil this weekend in response to massive flooding. In the coming days, our Disaster Assistance Response Team on the ground will begin providing these items—which include shelter tarp, hygiene kits, blankets, and personal water filters—to those who lost everything to the floodwaters. They will also be setting up community filtration systems that can provide clean water for up to 10,000 people per day.
Provide Flood ReliefThe region has been overwhelmed by heavy rains during the past month, resulting in deadly floods and landslides. More than 100 people have been killed, with hundreds of thousands having to flee their homes. In Porto Alegre, the state capital of Rio Grande do Sul, five of the six water treatment facilities are shut down, meaning most of the population is without clean water.
The needs are urgent and more rain is expected, so we will keep flying our cargo planes to deliver more urgently needed aid. On the ground, we are partnering closely with local churches, as well as military and government officials. While we work, we will boldly share why we’re there—pointing people to the Lord Jesus Christ who is our anchor in the storm.
Please keep the hurting families of Brazil in your prayers and ask for wisdom for our teams as they serve them.
Sincerely,
Franklin Graham
President, Samaritan's Purse
This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast.
