Dear Peter,
In my role as the Director of the Colson Fellows program, I get a front-row seat to the questions believers wrestle with daily: “How do I navigate being invited to my coworker’s same-sex ‘wedding’?” “Should I embrace Critical Race Theory?” “What do I do when my classmate asks me to use her ‘preferred pronouns’?” Maybe you’ve wrestled with similar questions.
As Christians, we know we can’t ignore these questions or separate them from our commitment to Christ. We need biblical clarity to respond faithfully to these real-life issues. But clarity is hard to come by these days. In the Colson Fellows program, we help Christians gain clarity by teaching them how to view this cultural moment in light of the bigger story of redemption. When they do, they can apply biblical wisdom to the current challenges they face, no matter how unfamiliar or complicated those challenges are.
This was the experience of one of our current Colson Fellows-in-Training, Grey Falanga, who is the senior pastor at Walnut Street Baptist Church in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Through the Colson Fellows program, Grey has been able to help his congregation think biblically about today’s hot button issues ... like Critical Theory or the use of “preferred pronouns.” As Grey told us recently, there’s a worldview behind every idea our culture embraces. Because he understands the false beliefs behind these ideas, he can address them at the root level and help his congregation discern truth from error.
Grey’s experience is typical of most Colson Fellows. As they learn the big story of Creation, Fall, Redemption, and Restoration, they find themselves more able to make sense of the moment they’re living in. They exchange confusion for clarity.
I hope you’ll read the full story about Grey and Walnut Street Baptist Church. I found it so encouraging and I think you will too. You can read it here.
Thank you for the ways you empower people like Grey to move forward with clarity and confidence in their faith.
Blessings,
