Mark’s gospel makes clear how great is the press of the crowd, with its countless needs to be met, on Jesus and his disciples. Yet in Sunday’s gospel Jesus advises his disciples to get away and rest, to take care of themselves. Sometimes we think that when others are in great need we shouldn’t think of ourselves at all; but Jesus also honors the caregivers’ need. We are sent from Christ’s table to care for others and for ourselves.
SCRIPTURE of the Day Jeremiah 23: 1-6 Psalm 23 Ephesians 2: 11-22 Mark 6:30-34 and 53-56
WORSHIP MUSIC: "The Greatest Commandment" "All Who Are Thirsty" "Shepherd me, O God" "This Little Light of Mine"
Regular giving is down (as expected), however so are expenses versus budget. Some adjustments that we have made over the summer is reducing technology subscriptions as well as having an unexpected decrease in paid staff members.
Historically, giving decreases during the summer months and hopefully this will pick up once the Winter Disciples return to Arizona in the Fall.
The Coffee Shop has also been slow over the summer and hopefully will pick back up, once temperatures aren't so hot!
In summary, even though things don't look great for the month of June, our year-to-date numbers are still holding. For questions regarding this financial update please contact Lisa Parrish at: treasurer@iamcrossroads.org
The Transition Team started their work in January and completed the task of writing the Transition Report in May. This report is shared with the congregation and the Synod. Thank you to the tremendous work of the Transition Team: Lisa Parrish, Pam Dienert, Jane Pagliari, Rondi Eggenberger, and Pastor Kaila.
The Call Committee has now taken the baton and has begun completing the Ministry Site Profile (MSP). Think of this as our "Pastor wanted" posting. Once complete, the document will go to the Synod and the process will begin in the search for new pastor candidates. This process can take some time, as there is a current pastor shortage. In the meantime, Pastor Kaila has agreed to be available to serve at Crossroads until the Fall of 2025, with an extension of her contract on a month-to-month basis. We are blessed! The Call Committee consists of the following team members: Amanda Hardy, Bruce Lamprecht, Donald Lalim, Jane Pagliari, John Wells, Lisa Parrish, Rondi Eggenberger, and Pastor Kaila.
Join us Friday, August 9 for a night at the Arizona Diamondbacks! Enjoy the game against the Philadelphia Phillies followed by a concert by Casting Crowns! Tickets are $33/person. Scholarships are available! If you would like to join this event, please contact Rondi Eggenberger at admin@iamcrossroads.org by Sunday, July 21.
Join us for this discussion as we explore together with the authors that people from opposing political perspectives truly can have calm, grace-filled conversations with one another. We had a great discussion at Connection Night on Wednesday, July 10! There is still time to join in! For the next Connection Night we will be discussing Chapter 2-4. If you would be interested in participating via Zoom, please contact Pastor Kaila at: karmbruster@iamcrossroads.org
Join us at Feed My Starving Children in Mesa for a 2 hour service project packing meals for those in need! Want to join? Let us know at admin@iamcrossroads.org
Station Coffee Co. Happenings
