Rushing Relief to Storm Survivors in Vietnam and Louisiana

Rushing Relief to Storm Survivors in Vietnam and Louisiana

Dear‍ Friend,

Typhoon Yagi tore through Southeast Asia late last week with sustained winds near 100 mph. Vietnam took the hardest hit. In the northern mountains, the storm triggered flooding and landslides, killing more than 200 people with scores more still missing.

A Samaritan’s Purse team is on the ground in Yen Bai Province wading through submerged streets and neighborhoods handing out emergency equipment—lifejackets, flashlights—to grateful residents. Our DC-8 cargo jet is now on its way carrying over 19 metric tons of relief supplies, including water filters, solar lights, and more—enough to support 3,000 families.

Rushing Relief to Vietnam

Here at home, Hurricane Francine punched the Gulf coast of Louisiana as a Category 2 storm, flooding neighborhoods, toppling trees and power lines, and ripping the roofs off buildings before being downgraded to a tropical depression. Samaritan’s Purse has assisted many thousands of people in hard-hit Louisiana over the years and we will again help in Jesus’ Name. One of our Disaster Relief Units, a tractor trailer stocked with equipment and supplies, left our Southwest Ministry Center near Dallas this morning, and our team will soon arrive to assist those whose lives have been upended.

Helping After Hurricane Francine

We urgently need volunteers to help homeowners with mud outs, clearing trees and debris from yards and houses, and tarping damaged roofs. Most of all, we want to come alongside these hurting families and let them know that God loves them and hasn't forgotten them.

Please pray for the people of Vietnam and Louisiana as they recover from these terrible storms.

Sincerely,

Franklin Graham
President, Samaritan's Purse
