The story of Peter and Paul includes their lives, their dispute, and their deaths:
- Peter was the chief of the Apostles, appointed by Christ. Paul was a strict Jew who persecuted Christians until he met Jesus on the way to Damascus. Paul became a Christian missionary, traveling the Roman Empire and preaching about Christ.
- Peter and Paul had a dispute in Antioch over whether Christian Jews and Gentiles should follow Jewish dietary laws. Paul accused Peter of being two-faced, observing Jewish laws when with fellow Jews but not when with Gentiles.
- Peter was crucified upside down in Rome between 64 and 68 AD. Paul was beheaded outside of Rome. The New Testament doesn't record the deaths of Peter and Paul, but traditions have developed around them.
Peter and Paul are also the patron saints of Rome. The Feast of Saints Peter and Paul is a day of celebration for them.
