Surgeries Begin in Myanmar

Life-Saving Surgeries
Begin in Myanmar

Dear ‍Friend,

Our team hit the ground running. Today, members of our Disaster Assistance Response Team, which includes doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals, began performing surgeries in Naypyidaw, the capital of Myanmar. We are working near the epicenter of the deadly earthquake that struck on March 28. The operations are taking place in a temporary location that is next to the site where dozens of our other personnel are hard at work setting up a full-scale Emergency Field Hospital. Once completed, it will be able to serve 200 patients a day. The hospital is equipped with an ICU, emergency room, pharmacy, laboratory, and two operating theaters where we can perform dozens of surgeries daily.

Help Earthquake Survivors

More than 3,500 are confirmed dead in Myanmar, and thousands more have been injured. The surgical needs in the hardest-hit areas are overwhelming, and the local hospitals are at capacity. Nearly 100 people who were hurt in the disaster, many of them with broken arms and legs, were already waiting for surgery in Naypyidaw when we arrived.

We are also airlifting more than 104 tons of critical supplies on a 747 cargo plane that departed Greenville, South Carolina, yesterday. Six water filtration systems are on board, in addition to tarps, solar lights, hygiene kits, blankets, and more.

Please pray earnestly for the people of Myanmar who are suffering and for our teams as they serve as the hands and feet of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As Scripture commands us, “Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2).

Sincerely,

Franklin Graham
