Great news Crossroads Lutheran!  We have a new Pastor!  Pastor Ryan Marsh accepted the Call!  Tentatively, his first Sunday will be Sunday, July 20!  Read below for a message from Pastor Ryan and his family:

Dear Sisters and Brothers of Crossroads Lutheran Church,

It is with great joy and a full heart that I accept your invitation and God's call to the role of Crossroads pastor. I thank God for you and your faithful ministry in San Tan, Florence, and the many summer locations to which you are sent by God's Spirit.  Your faith had already been reported to me by several seemingly "random" sources.  In fact, I hope to share with you soon the many divine circumstances that have brought us together in life and ministry.

We are eager to be with you in person, but even before we do I urge you to pray for me and my family daily, and we shall do the same for you.  Pray also for one another, bearing each other's burdens.  Take this very seriously, for through this you will know without a doubt that our Lord Jesus cares for you, and likewise our neighbors will discover that we truly are Christ's hands and feet, not only in word, but in action.  I give you my vow to unashamedly proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, because it is the "power of God that brings salvation to all who believe" (Romans 1:16).

Disciples of Jesus, pray also for the new disciples who are to come.  Even now the Holy Spirit is planting in their hearts the longing to receive Jesus and be joined with his Church.  May God make us worthy of the awesome task ahead of us!

Greet Vicar Lelia and President Rondi for me, and, as Thessalonians says, "acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work."  Likewise, greet Don and Cheri, whose generosity and hospitality are unmatched.

Please read these words publicly when you gather and share them with the disciples abroad, whom I long to meet in person when temperatures cool!

Now, may the God of hope
fill you with all joy and peace
as you trust in him
so that you might overflow with hope
through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Amen

Ryan & Bonnie,
Moses, Juniper and Simon

Please add Pastor Ryan and his family to your prayers for the following prayer requests:
1.  Bonnie finds a job that she enjoys.
2.  Safe travels as Pastor Ryan and his family leave for Arizona on Friday, June 27
3.  Their children, Moses, Juniper and Simon, become acclimated to their new schools and make new and lasting friendships.

Also, a huge thank you to the Call Committee:  Bruce Lamprecht, Don Lalim, John Wells, Lisa Parrish, and Rondi Eggenberger and the Church Board:  Cheri Lalim, Jan Martin, Lelia Redin, Lisa Parrish, and Rondi Eggenberger for a job well done!
The time is getting closer!  Pastor Ryan and his family will be arriving in Arizona on Monday, June 30!  We would like to welcome them with a Food Basket containing items for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Please sign up here for items needed.  We are asking that you bring the food items to church on Sunday.

If you would like to participate and not in town or will not be there on Sunday, you can donate money and someone will go and purchase the items at the grocery store.  Donations can be made online or through the Church Center App.  If that does not work for you, contact admin@iamcrossroads.org and we can work something out!

Nearly 300 gathered in Las Vegas for the 2025 Synod Assembly, celebrating new congregations, electing leaders and hearing inspiring messages from Bishop Hutterer and David Scherer. Hosted by The Community Lutheran Church, the theme for the 2025 assembly was “BUILD THE BODY” which draws from Ephesians 4:12-13.  This reminds us of our calling to equip one another for ministry and grow together in Christ.
In her bishop’s address, Bishop Deborah Hutterer named the challenges of pastoral shortages, yet lifted up the creative witness and resilience of our congregations: “This is God’s church,” she reminded us, “and our bones are good.”
The Synod Council Report emphasized key priorities:
  • Launching the first cohort of Synodically Authorized Ministers (SAMs)
  • Supporting Spanish-language ministry through expanded translation and training
  • Investing in youth and young adult leadership, including record participation in Leadership Lab
  • Deepening connections with companion churches in Mexico and Senegal
Guest presenter David Scherer of JUSTmove offered three sessions combining music, movement, and storytelling, drawing on intercultural theology and the Gospel’s call to community. He also participated in worship and led Bible study.
Additional highlights included:
  • A concert hosted by Community Lutheran Church’s music ministry (Linda and I were so impressed – comparable to any music performance that you will find on the Vegas strip!)
  • Celebration of newly ordained ministers, milestone anniversaries, and congregational transitions
  • Adoption of the 2026–2027 Mission Plan, with a focus on leadership development and direct congregational support
  • $3,365.80 was raised for our assembly giving focus split evenly between two urgent and vital ministries: Lutheran Social Services of Nevada (LSSN) and Lutheran Disaster Response, with funds from the latter directed specifically to support recovery efforts following wildfires in Southern California.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE FINANCIAL PLAN AND 2024 ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
Grand Canyon Synod Hunger Leaders Network – the network has met monthly since June 2021. With the unanimous approval of our Hunger Team’s Synod Resolution at synod assembly in June 2023, the group received its green-light to proceed with “Encouraging congregations to support local hunger ministries, increase awareness of hunger and poverty issues, and increase opportunities to financially support the work of ELCA World Hunger.” Through its meetings, education opportunities, coalition partnerships, advocacy efforts and more, the network is making a difference in the fight against hunger and succeeded in increasing the synod’s giving to ELCA World Hunger from $329,570 in 2023 to $445,473 in 2024, a 35% increase due primarily to the popular 40-40-40 Lenten Challenge.
Lutheran Day at the Legislature – LAMA hosted its 4th annual Lutheran Day at the Legislature on February 10. 200 Lutherans and friends representing 29 of Arizona’s 30 legislative districts gathered to hear remarks from Senate President Warren Petersen, House Minority Leader Oscar de los Santos, Bishop Deborah Hutterer and more, and then met with their legislators about hunger, equal access to voting, and the need for low-income housing. Participants met with more than 40 lawmakers on our big day of advocacy.
Strategic Developments – Communication - Accomplishments
On a personal note, Linda and I were very proud to represent Crossroads at the 2025 Synod Assembly, (inside the red circle in the photo) but we were thrilled when the following was displayed recognizing our accomplishment!
“This year, we witnessed remarkable examples of how strategic stewardship empowers congregations to strengthen their ministry capacity. At Crossroads Lutheran Church, what began as a workshop to address $30,000 in debt culminated in an Easter Sunday announcement that the congregation had raised over $75,000—more than double their goal. This resurrection story exemplifies how clear communication about generosity's impact inspires abundant giving.”
In addition to this recognition, our own Leila Reddin was recognized for accomplishing all the requirements to become a Vicar.

(Rondi, I’m including the following as I thought maybe the congregation might want an overview of the Grand Canyon Synod, separate from our highlights of the assembly.)

MEET FRIENDS
We will be having a "make-up" session of The Bible Year study on Sunday, June 29  following worship at 10:30.  For the next meeting, our discussion will center around Psalms 127-150 (pages 133-137 in the book) and any other questions people may have about previous books.  If you would like the Zoom Meeting ID for our next meeting, please email:  adimin@iamcrossroads.org
MAKE LIFE BETTER
Join us this summer as we collect bottled water for Aris Foundation!  Aris Foundation  is a charitable organization dedicated to helping the homeless community in Tempe, AZ and the surrounding areas.  For more information on Aris Foundation, click here!  If you would like to donate, please bring bottled water to the church!  You can also donate funds for water in the Church Center App!
Lutheran Campformation is a joint ministry among various congregations of the Grand Canyon Synod.  It's mission is Christian Faith formation for youth entering grades 6th-12th in an outdoor setting. This year we have two of our youth attending the camp!  If you would like to help support our youth at camp, please donate in person at the church, online, or via the Church Center App!

Looking for another way to support campers?  The camp has sent us an Amazon list of items needed for the week.  You can purchase items from the list and they will be sent directly to the camp!  Find the Campformation Supply List on Amazon here.

And finally, Crossroads Lutheran Church has signed up for two different time frames to pray for the campers.  Prayer should focus on faith formation for young people at the camp.  Grow in their relationship with God, others and nature.  God would open their hearts, minds and bodies to experience God’s love.  Our time slots are Sunday, June 29 from 10:30-11:00am and on Monday, June 30 from 7:00-7:30am.

Join Arizona Faith Network for a powerful, hands-on service opportunity as we come together across communities to pack Heat Relief Bags for those most vulnerable to Arizona’s extreme summer temperatures. These interfaith events are open to all who want to help protect lives and show compassion in action.

Each event will include community-building, light refreshments, and the chance to pack bags that will be distributed through AFN’s network of Heat Relief Sites and outreach partners.  For more information and to register to volunteer, click here.  Sign up will also be available at church or email admin@iamcrossroads.org
