The Fear of the Lord & the Mandate for Excellence
By Rylee Meek, Founder & CEO, The Social Dynamic Selling System
In a world that celebrates shortcuts, hustle culture, and performance at all costs, there’s an ancient, eternal principle that many overlook, yet it's the very foundation of wisdom and success:
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” – Proverbs 9:10
But let’s be clear — this isn’t a fear that repels us from God. It’s a reverential awe that draws us into alignment with His ways. It’s the posture of the heart that says, “You are God, and I am not.” And from that place flows wisdom, order, and excellence.
Excellence is a Kingdom Standard, Not a Corporate One
Too many believers compartmentalize their faith from their work. We attend church on Sundays, but operate like the rest of the world Monday through Friday. But in the Kingdom, everything is sacred — especially our work.
When we fear the Lord, we aren’t called to just “show up”, we’re called to show out. We pursue excellence not to impress others, but to honor the One who called us. Whether we’re flipping burgers, managing teams, writing code, or raising children, we do it all as unto the Lord.
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” – Colossians 3:23
Excellence Isn't Perfection - It's Obedience Refined
Excellence doesn’t mean we never make mistakes. It means we steward what we’ve been given with integrity, intention, and diligence. When we fear the Lord, sloppiness becomes unacceptable, not because we’re afraid of punishment, but because we want our work to reflect His glory and to bring Him glory.
It’s a mindset that says:
- “This business isn't mine. It's His.”
- “This platform isn’t about my brand. It’s about His name.”
- “This meeting isn’t just strategy. It’s ministry.”
Why This Matters Now
In today’s chaotic culture, the world is desperate for people of unwavering character. It’s difficult to find those who build with excellence, lead with honor, and live with fear of the Lord.
Your work is a witness. Your brand is a banner. Your discipline is a declaration.
And when we fear God above all else, we become unshakable and unignorable in any industry.
Let’s Raise the Standard
Let’s be leaders who don’t just talk about faith but demonstrate it through our craftsmanship, our decisions, and our daily rhythms.
Because the world doesn’t need more influencers. It needs more people of influence, who walk in the fear of the Lord and execute in the spirit of excellence.
