Faith Hurts Sometimes

Faith Hurts Sometimes If you’ve been around people, chances are you’ve been hurt. If you’ve been around church people, chances are that hurt came with an extra gut punch. After all— this is the body of Christ. These are the people we are supposed to recognize by the fruit of the Spirit! By their love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Unfortunately, we tend not to embody all of these qualities, even on our best of days. And, on our worst days? Lord, have mercy. Still, there’s nothing quite like suffering because of your faith community, or someone specifically within it… except maybe feeling betrayed or abandoned by God. Why did he allow _____ to happen? Why did our prayer go unanswered? Why isn’t he showing up more clearly in ______ situation? We all carry deep wounds. And sometimes, those injuries make it hard to be vulnerable. It’s painful to trust God again. Other times, when we were the ones to cause the hurt? It’s hard to trust ourselves again. In these moments, we find it’s important to be honest with him– about our past pain and our current fears. About the ways we want to trust him… and why it might be hard to do so. God can bind these broken wounds– he carried many of them himself. We hope this prayer and scripture can help you step out in hope and in love and take a small step toward spiritual healing.
