Psalm 42:4 (NIV)

These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go to the house of God under the protection of the Mighty One with shouts of joy and praise among the festive throng.
– Psalm 42:4 (NIV)
Today’s commentary

We all face times when we are overwhelmed by our circumstances, but the Psalmist gives us a key on how to endure moments of despair—remember the times of joy. We call our soul into a different perspective when we think about God’s blessing and His faithfulness, even though our current feelings of discouragement may not go away. Hope in God reminds our soul that our current feelings are not the full state of reality, so pour out your heart to God in prayer. His love can hold us when our soul feels cast to the ground.
