Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,
There is need for perseverance in the race that is marked out for us. The Christian life is not one of ease or comfort. In fact, history bears out the great difficulties followers of Christ have endured. Yet it is those who have gone before us who stand on either side of our running path, cheering us on. Their faithfulness gives us strength to cast off sin when we realize that others have been where we are now. Their witness empowers us to finish this great race.
