This Week at Crossroads I 7.27.23

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

If you show me your friendships, it will reveal the direction of your life. The community you choose could be the difference between living in darkness or living in light. We first must enter into fellowship (koinonia) with God, and that fellowship will ensure that we live in the light of truth. It is a beautiful thing when groups of people fellowship with God and enter into fellowship with one another.

FAREWELL TO OUR CHURCH ADMINISTRATOR, KELLY DUNLAP
We are very sad to announce that our Church Administrator Kelly Dunlap will be finishing her work with us on August 15th.  For the past couple of years Kelly has juggled the many balls her position requires with a smile on her face and a warm welcome for everyone. We will miss her creativity, dedication to her work and delightful sense of humor.  Kelly will continue to serve as the manager at the Station Coffee Company.  Kelly wants to be able to devote more time with her family and attend Sunday mass with her family.  We seek God’s blessing upon her as she makes this transition and wish her the very best.  The Dunlap family are part of our Crossroads family and don't be surprised if you see them at church events from time to time.  Thank you Kelly for your many contributions to our church community!  We love you!

A CONVERSATION WITH REV. KEN WHEELER
August 1, 2023 I 10:00am

Join the Grand Canyon Synod's Simeon Project as they host a conversation with Ret. ELCA Pastor Ken Wheeler regarding his book "US: The Resurrection of American Terror." This heart-wrenching yet stubbornly hopeful narrative, exposes white supremacy as America's greatest threat. Transcending the boundaries of memoir, scholarship, theology, and sharp political critique, Pastor Wheeler takes readers on his own seven-decade-long journey that lays bare the terror of being Black in America. From his childhood in Jackson, Mississippi under the trauma of Jim Crow segregation to the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, Wheeler steadily holds a mirror up to a nation drowning in a rising tide of white supremacy.

MAKE LIFE BETTER
TEACHER SUPPLY DRIVEI SUNDAY, JULY 30
We know school's out for summer!  Most AZ schools will resume in July.  According to AdoptAClassroom.org, teachers spend an average of $750 of their own money on school supplies. Many teachers spend even more, with 30% spending $1,000 out of their own pocket each school year on supplies for their own classrooms.  Crossroads will collect school supplies for teachers in FUSD to support their 2023-2024 school year.  Supply list will be available in July.  For more information contact Nicole Crombie.

ASU MOVE-IN DAY I SATURDAY, AUGUST 12, 2023
Make life better serving as a volunteer at ASU Polytechnic campus move in day.  We have two opportunities this year.  Volunteers help make the process as smooth as possible, unload cars and moving belongings to rooms, keeping spirits up with the cheers and applause , and helping families through what can often be an emotional day.  If moving doesn't sound like your cup of tea, join us as as we spruce up the Agape Ministry House at Poly.  Both students and families have reacted favorably to how effective this move-in process works.
