JUST 27 AMENDMENTS IN 235 YEARS
Written in 1777, ratified in 1778, and put into operation in 1789, our U.S. Constitution has remained largely intact since its inception, with just 27 Constitutional Amendments adopted over the years.
The first 10 amendments constitute the Bill of Rights, and the most recent amendment took place in 1992.
More a concise statement of national principles than a detailed plan of governmental operation, the Constitution has evolved to meet the changing needs of a modern society profoundly different from the eighteenth-century world in which its creators lived.
