Holy Joy

Holy Joy David’s joy must have been contagious. Psalm 33 begins with David joyfully singing and praising the Lord, exalting Him for creating the heavens and the earth and all that is in them. In today’s verse, at the end of this psalm, David’s tone shifts to not only praising God, but also expressing hope and trust in Him. When was the last time you trusted a stranger with something important? David presented trust, hope, and rejoicing as inextricably linked. We can’t bring praise and place trust in God if we don’t seek Him, or “wait in hope” for Him. After all, God made us to search for and find Him (Acts 17:27). Why did He make us this way? As we search, we begin to understand His character and experience His faithfulness in our lives. And when we truly understand how great God is, we will inevitably give Him praise the way David did: with our whole hearts, holding nothing back. God wants us to seek Him above all things. When we wait on Him and hope in Him, our hearts find a contagious joy that nothing else on this earth can give.
