Regard for Our Leaders
Regard for Our Leaders
It can be easy to overlook everything our leaders do for us. In our universities, families, workplaces, and especially our churches, God has placed men and women to care for our physical and spiritual well-being. But often, when leaders work the hardest, they are criticized the most. Sometimes, instead of receiving honor, they encounter scorn.
Paul spoke to the Thessalonians about a similar relationship dynamic with their leadership. While the people may have wanted to ignore authority and reject leadership, Paul pleaded with them to praise their leaders for all the hard work they had done. Though their work seemed burdensome at times, their leaders admonished the Thessalonians because the leaders cared for them. Their goal as leaders was not to be popular among the people, but to ensure the church was following Jesus faithfully.
This message is extremely timely today. How often has our society praised rebelling against our leadership? It takes humility and maturity to honor leaders who sacrifice so much for us. Let’s live in peace and hold these hard workers in high regard, for God has placed them in our lives for our own good.
