Burden Bearers
Burden Bearers
It’s often hard to know how to share in someone’s sadness, listen during times of stress, and help manage hurts and struggles. Yet bearing one another’s burdens is the truest expression of a Christlike love. In our calling to fulfill the law of Christ, we must love others with purpose and endurance.
Imagine the love that compelled Christ to go to the cross—the overwhelming hatred for sin, but the overpowering love that prevailed. By literally carrying the weight of our sins, He became the ultimate example of bearing one another’s burdens. That same sacrificial love, humbly laying down oneself for another’s good, is what we are called to give one another. Jesus told His disciples that they were to love each other with the same endurance, purpose, and intentionality that He loved them (John 13:34). In practice, carrying the burdens of others looks like an active and selfless investment in people who cross your path. Pray for those you encounter, speak truth in love, give with compassion, serve one another humbly, lend and expect nothing in return. Call back those who have turned away; minister to the ones who are struggling and hurting. Giving the love of Christ is the way of living the love of Christ.
