What Is Your Gain?
What Is Your Gain?
As we ponder the direction of our lives, our generation is faced with a particular question: What is your gain? Some might say money, respect, or, in the apostle Paul’s case, a self-righteousness that comes through strict adherence to a set of religious rules. But God tells us through Paul that knowing Christ is our sole spiritual gain; everything else might as well be “garbage” and “a loss.”
No doubt, worldly things are magnetic; that’s why so many of us run after them. But that pull is an expression of our sinful nature, of our desire to make something other than God our ultimate goal. The truth is, running after those things isn’t actually fulfilling; but when we get to know Christ, who is of “surpassing worth,” our lives become much more valuable because then we are living with purpose.
