A Christian Fasting Prayer Why do we fast? Fasting is a way to recognize our neediness and vulnerability as humans. We need water. We need food. And in a culture that preaches independence, it’s good to realize we are quite dependent on God and others. Fasting reminds us we need God and his provision. Fasting also reminds us there are those in our cities and in our world who don’t have the access to food that we have. BUT, who wants to not eat on purpose?
