Ahh, the nerves!

Ahh, the nerves! Do you know that feeling too? You know what’s true. You know God’s promises. Maybe you even pass them on to others—just like I do. And yet… there they are: the worries. Persistent, recurring, and sometimes overwhelming. And that’s exactly what feels so contradictory. Almost embarrassing. Believe me—when an acquaintance of mine who doesn’t even believe in God held up a mirror to me because I was worrying about something small, I felt pretty ashamed: I should know better… right? And this is where a small shift in perspective really helps. Because you’re living in the space of truth. You believe in a good God. You know what carries and sustains you. But your everyday life happens in the space of pressure: deadlines, responsibility, expectations, emotional closeness to others—and not least, your own vulnerability. And sometimes your nervous system completely messes with your faith. You know, Jesus wouldn’t have said, “Do not worry…” (Matthew 6:25) if we weren’t going to worry at all. Jesus understands what’s going on inside us—physically, emotionally, biologically—as we move through life. Jesus knows that your mind believes while your body is sounding the alarm. That’s not a spiritual failure. That’s biology. And so you’re allowed to come before God with a believing mind AND a worried body at the same time. You no longer have to judge yourself for something Jesus has understood for a long time. “Do not worry” (Matthew 6:25) doesn’t mean: “Don’t have worries.” It means: “Don’t carry them alone anymore.” And above it all, this truth remains: God is taking care of you—even while your nervous system is still learning that. 😉 You are a miracle!
