Healthy Fear
Healthy Fear
The fear of God doesn’t mean being afraid of God. Instead, fearing God is reverence and worship from an understanding of who He is. And developing a healthy fear of Him is for our own good (Psalm 34); it helps us constantly acknowledge God’s greatness. God created us for Himself, but we fell—and we became separated from the God who guides us. As a result, we often stumble through life because we don’t have our internal compass to guide our way: the fear of God and reverence for who He is and what He wants.
Solomon, the wisest man ever to live, understood the importance of developing the fear of the Lord, and so he showed us how to gain it; he encouraged us to seek it and cry out for understanding. So take time to search Scripture with diligence and desperation for understanding. Seek it as something vital to your survival, because then you can understand what it means to fear the Lord—and let that good fear guide you in your decisions.
