Losing Your Life
Losing Your Life
Losing your life seems counterproductive if the goal is to find life, doesn’t it? We want to have control over “our” lives—we are the ones living them, so why can’t we own them? But, as paradoxical as it may seem, this scripture contains a profound truth about God’s grace.
Before we knew Christ, we were clinging to a life that was separate from God. We held on to the things of this world with a white-knuckle grip. Yet God had something better for us: new life in Jesus, and the power of the Holy Spirit. To take hold of it, we had to let go of the “life” we thought we had, and open our hands to receive new life. Jesus’ sacrifice is the reason we have life; we owe everything to Him, and our lives are not our own. We lose our lives and find something much better.
Are you struggling to find and create a dream life for yourself? If so, it’s time to let that go. Let’s loosen our grip on our own lives for His sake, acknowledging that Jesus has a much better idea of what “life” should be like. He is calling the shots, and we trust Him to put the right things in our hands.
