Words from the Spirit

Words from the Spirit Words matter. But when the pressure’s on, we often don’t know where to find them. Paul understood the weight of his message and the power of words in his mission. His plea to the church in Ephesus was one of humility, acknowledging that his words meant nothing without the Spirit of God behind them. God’s gospel is one that must be proclaimed boldly, and the places where Paul took it required him to risk his very life in sharing it. That’s why he pleaded for prayer that the Spirit would inspire him with words more fearless than he could come up with on his own. Our pastors, missionaries, and even our own selves require this same kind of prayer and encouragement. It’s important that our words are chained not to opinions or feelings, but to the Sprit of God and the power of the Word. Let us then pray this same prayer over our leaders and our lives, asking for the wisdom, words, and courage to declare the mystery of the gospel fearlessly, as we should.
