A Prayer for When You Can’t Focus

A Prayer for When You Can’t Focus Ever feel like your brain is made of tabs? Open, buzzing, unfocused—and no idea where the music is coming from? You sit down to do one thing, and suddenly you’ve opened seven apps, reheated your coffee twice, and somehow ended up deep diving into the plot of a movie you haven’t seen in years or on a rabbit Wikipedia trail following the genealogy of European monarchs (just us?). We all have days when our minds just won’t settle. Whether you’re trying to work, study, pray, or just rest, it can be frustrating to feel like your brain’s all over the place. But we’re not the first people to struggle with this. The Psalms are full of people asking God to help them remember, concentrate, stay the course. The writers of Scripture knew that distraction wasn’t just about attention span—it was often a symptom of stress, worry, fear, or grief. And instead of powering through, they brought that to God. If you’re feeling scattered, here’s a prayer to bring your full, distracted self before the One who still holds you close. You don’t need perfect concentration to be close to him. Just a willing heart—even a distracted one.
