Fresh Bread for Today
Fresh Bread for Today
I’ve learned something about myself that I am not proud of… I want spiritual strength without daily nourishment. I want deep faith, steady peace, and resilient joy—but sometimes I treat God’s Word like an occasional snack instead of daily bread.
In Exodus, God fed the Israelites with manna. But there was a catch. They couldn’t store it up. They were not allowed to stockpile this valuable and essential resource.
“No one is to keep any of it until morning.” (Exodus 16:19, NIV)
When they tried to create a surplus, it spoiled. God was teaching dependence. Fresh provision for each day.
That’s still true for me. Yesterday’s inspiration won’t sustain today’s temptation. Last week’s sermon won’t fuel today’s stress. No, each and every day, I need fresh bread from Jesus.
“Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life.
Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.’” (John 6:35, NIV)
Notice the word “comes.” It’s active. It requires movement. I have to show up, and I have to show up hungry. When I do, Jesus and the Holy Spirit do all the rest!
When I open Scripture, I’m not just checking a box.
I’m gathering manna. I’m feeding my soul. I’m aligning my thoughts with His truth before the noise rushes in.
And here’s what I’ve discovered: God always provides enough. Not always answers for every situation, but grace for today.
Daily bread. Daily dependence. Daily renewal.
The miracle of today is that I do not live on bread alone, but by every word that comes out of the mouth of God… and He is offering it to me, right now.
Let’s pray together.
Father, forgive me for trying to live today on yesterday’s intake. Give me hunger for Your Word. Teach me to come to You consistently. Quiet the distractions that keep me from gathering fresh bread. Nourish my mind and steady my heart. Thank You that You always provide exactly what I need for today. Amen.
You are a miracle!
