Loving Others
Loving Others
In some of the most poetic verses in the Bible, Paul taught us about love. And it’s love that gives value to our actions, because love gives us the servant’s heart that God wants us to have. Love is not about personal fulfillment, a goal, or heightened emotion. It is not egotistical. In these verses, Paul intentionally included things that exist for the benefit of others: the gifts of prophecy and knowledge are used to teach others; faith demands trusting in something other than ourselves; and surrendering possessions means nothing unless there is a recipient.
In all ways, love is as much about giving as receiving. Loving others means opening our lives to others, even when it’s not convenient for ourselves. It means listening long and intently to others while they share themselves with you; it means forgiving others because holding grudges is selfish. Let’s intentionally think about the love we give to others, and be thankful for the love we receive in return.
