Selfless Community
Selfless Community
There is one essential message to Paul’s words: community really is valuable to Christians! Living in community is foundational to the Christian faith. Having authentic community is not merely cooperating or putting up with each other; it’s living selflessly for one another. Jesus showed us how to have community with others: He served them perfectly by giving His life for them.
We live in a divided church, in a divided nation. How do we get past those differences? The answer is right here in today’s verse. Do nothing selfishly, regard others as better, and look to others’ interests. Putting another before yourself is the Christ-follower’s joy because it’s the living model of Jesus’ selflessness. In this completely countercultural move, we acknowledge that He has already given us all we need, and we are free to direct our actions outward to others. So disregard the urge to make petty distinctions, and aim to live accountable and in service to one another. Set your mind on the goal we all share: proclaiming the glory of God to all.
