You Must Master It

“For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.”

-Romans 6:14
Today’s Word:
When Cain was gripped by anger and jealousy, the Lord gave a vital word of wisdom, “You must master it.” Cain had a choice. There was a moment in time when he could have gotten his jealousy and anger under control. Cain needed to master his attitudes, and when he didn’t, it resulted in murder and the consequences of a curse.
“Do not be deceive: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.” (Galatians 6:7-8) In the same way, God puts a similar piece of wisdom before us today. Decide where you are going to sow. The flesh will get you something bad, and the Spirit will bring you something good — the choice is yours.
Jesus didn’t teach us to apply the cross to the other person, but to ourselves. When Cain disobeyed God, a curse came upon his life. We can count on reaping similar consequences for our own sin. A whole list of curses is spelled out for us in Deuteronomy 27:15-26 and Deuteronomy 28:15-8. The blessings of obedience are also listed in Deuteronomy 28:1-14. There are certain steps of obedience we must practice in our family relationships that will release the blessings of His Presence in our homes.  A happy home is a powerful witness in these “dark days.”
Scripture:
“This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.” -Deuteronomy 30:19-20
“Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.” -Matthew 10:38-39
