Why Christianity is Relevant Today

Why Christianity is Relevant Today Written by Daniel Hamlin “Immortality simply as immortality is irrelevant to the Christian claim” -C.S. Lewis (Miracles). As I read this somewhat hard to understand sentence from Christian writer C. S. Lewis, I couldn’t help but pause. Almost all religions believe in the afterlife in some fashion. Lewis reminds us that Christianity would be no different if all it offered was a promise of immortality. Christianity offers a hope that is relevant for today, for our present life. Because of Jesus’s resurrection and because he’s alive today, our lives are changed here and now. The apostle Paul gets to the heart of the matter in Romans 8 when he states that we are more than conquerors in whatever this life may throw at us (v. 37). Whatever trial we face today, Paul says our hope in Jesus won’t let us down. The fact that Jesus is alive means that he’s with us in whatever circumstance we’re in. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is the power that now works and moves in our lives. Paul says that since death could not conquer Jesus, then there’s nothing in our lives we can’t overcome when we place our hope in him.
